Energy Efficiency Networks (EEN)

The aim of Energy Efficiency Networks (EENs) is to support companies in the implementation of profitable energy efficiency measures, thus contributing to strengthening the competitiveness of the German economy. In these networks, 10 to 15 regionally based companies meet for a moderated exchange of experiences and receive information from experts on corporate environmental technologies and organisational measures. Furthermore, companies describe their experiences with measures already implemented. The emphasis is on so-called cross-cutting technologies (e.g. compressed air, lighting, cooling and air conditioning). With this network approach, the topic of energy efficiency is institutionalised and therefore receives the significance it deserves in the companies from the perspective of climate policy. These networks are suitable for medium-sized and large companies with annual energy costs between €400,000 and roughly €20 million.

To ensure a consistently high standard of such networks, IREES is currently developing a management system with various partners for the organisation, supervision and technical support of these networks. This management system is operated under the LEEN brand name (Learning Energy Efficiency Networks). Its development is primarily based on the ‘30 Pilot Networks’ project commissioned by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).

This concept is already so successfully established that IREES, together with further partners, has founded LEEN GmbH, which is intended to develop the network concept into a commercial product and to take care of its distribution.

On the basis of the existing management concept for networks, IREES is also currently transferring the concept to smaller companies and municipalities within the framework of additional research projects.

Service Portfolio

  • Development and extension of the network management system according to the LEEN standard.
  • Transfer of the concept to additional areas of application (smaller companies, municipalities etc.).
  • Requests from individual networks – cost-benefit analysis, target setting etc.
