Forecasting Energy Consumption Analysis and Simulation Tool


The model system FORECAST has been developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems- und Innovation Research, TEP Energy GmbH and IREES GmbH. It addresses various research questions related to the dynamics of energy demand. 


FORECAST has been applied to a number of research projects analyzing different aspects of the future development of energy demand. This includes the impact of policy-measures, technology dynamics, prices and other socio-economic factors on energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions until 2030 or 2050.

Arbeitsplan und Methodik

The FORECAST modelling platform aims to develop long-term scenarios for future energy demand of individual countries and world regions until 2050. It is based on a bottom-up modelling approach considering the dynamics of technologies and socio-economic drivers. The model allows to address various research questions related to energy demand including scenarios for the future demand of individual energy carriers like electricity or natural gas, calculating energy saving potentials and the impact on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as well as abatement cost curves and ex-ante policy impact assessments.
